The Fredonia Jazz Festival brings together professional artists, college musicians, high school improvisers, educators, and jazz enthusiasts for a full day of performances, masterclasses, and musical collaboration.

Presented in collaboration with the 1891 Fredonia Opera House and in tandem with Fredonia Day of Jazz, this year's festival offers a unique opportunity to experience the many facets of the jazz community in one day.

The nationally recognized, five-time DownBeat Student Music Award-winning Fredonia Jazz Flextet performs cutting-edge chamber big band music in a variety of instrumentations and combinations.

A Festival That Brings the Jazz Community Together

The Fredonia Jazz Festival is about bringing different parts of the jazz community together.

Throughout the day, aspiring high school improvisers will work alongside Fredonia students, faculty, and guest artists. The festival gives young musicians an opportunity to perform and learn in a professional environment while giving the public a window into the educational process behind the music.

The festival also highlights the strength of jazz education in our region, from the work of local music educators and their students to the nationally recognized Fredonia Jazz Studies program.

The day culminates with an evening performance by two internationally recognized artists, bringing the professional jazz world into the same community that has been learning, performing, and collaborating throughout the day.

About the Artists

Camille Thurman

Accomplished composer, saxophonist, vocalist, and interpreter of the jazz tradition, Camille Thurman has established herself as one of the leading voices of her generation.

A native of New York City, Thurman has received numerous honors for her musicianship, including two ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composers Awards, a Fulbright Scholars Cultural Ambassador Grant, and recognition in DownBeat Magazine's Critics Poll. She has also been nominated for an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Jazz Album.

Thurman has released five full-length recordings as a leader. Her most recent project, Confluence: Vol. 1, is a collaboration with drummer Darrell Green and his quartet.

From 2018–2020, Thurman made history as the first woman in 30 years to tour, record, and perform full-time internationally with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra as a saxophonist and woodwind doubler.

She has headlined venues and festivals around the world, including the Kennedy Center, the Library of Congress, and the Rose Theater, and currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Jazz Performance at McGill University.

Darrell Green

Darrell Green is a master drummer, bandleader, composer, educator, and prolific sideman whose career spans more than two decades.

Raised in Oakland, California, Green began playing drums as a young child and developed a musical language rooted in modern post-bop while drawing on gospel, classical, Latin, and West African traditions.

He has performed and toured with artists including Stefon Harris, Red Holloway, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Pharoah Sanders, Sherman Irby, Steve Turre, Jeremy Pelt, and Lavay Smith and the Red Hot Skillet Lickers.

Green has performed at major venues and festivals around the world and has established himself as one of the most in-demand drummers in New York, Europe, and Japan.

2026–27 Season Overview

All performances take place at Domus Fare Restaurant, 41 W. Main Street, Fredonia. Each evening offers two seatings (5:30 PM and 8:00 PM) with reserved seating and dinner/drinks available from a special jazz menu.

Individual event tickets are now on sale!

Tickets are available for all four performances until sold out. Availability for the 5:30 PM seating is extremely limited, while there is still good availability for the 8:00 PM seating.
